The king of the hats - The history of the top hat

Who is the king of hats? That's right, the Chapeau Claque top hat! Everyone knows this special hat from magicians, coachmen or style-conscious people in fine threads. Anyone who wears a top hat wants to be seen and make a statement. But where does this traditional hat actually come from?

Top hats have been made since the middle of the 18th century. Back then, they were still called top hats. It was not until the end of the 18th century that the famous Chapeau Claque with its unique mechanism came onto the market. With its fine silk and practical folding mechanism, it always accompanied wealthy travelers. In the 19th century, the top hat increasingly established itself as a status symbol of the social hierarchy, where only the upper classes were allowed to wear it.

Today, the top hat stands for anything but a hierarchy. Anyone can wear this hat and it is still extremely popular today for formal occasions and weddings. A "must have" for every hat lover!
