Hat care tips

Storage

Please impregnate your hat or sliding cap (except for straw) with a universal impregnation spray to better protect your favourite piece from dirt and moisture. For hats that are impregnated by default, it is recommended to repeat this process after a few years.

General care tips

If your hat gets wet, stuff it with newspaper or kitchen paper from the inside. Dry your hat only at room temperature. Never place it on a radiator or use a hairdryer. Excessive heat can cause the hat to shrink, much like a jumper that has been washed too hot.  Dusty hats can be brushed with a clothes brush, always looking from above in the opposite direction to the clockwise direction. This removes the dust from the surface and does not brush it into the surface. However, a lint roller from the drugstore is also suitable for removing small dust particles or lint.  You can easily clean the inside band of the hat, also known as the sweatband, with a few home remedies. Take a bowl of lukewarm water and add a small splash of citric acid or washing-up liquid, depending on what you have in your household. Moisten a sponge with the lemon water or water-rinsing agent mix and slowly rub out the dirt. Then repeat this process with clean water.

Fabric hats

Fabric hats need different care depending on the type of material. They can often be cleaned in the washing machine. Please note the care label on the inside of the hat.

Felt hats

Clean your felt hat with a soft, clean brush in small counter-clockwise circular motions. Carefully rub out stubborn stains with fine greaseproof paper in a circular motion.

Leather hats

Leather hats have the advantage of being very durable by nature. They are even rain-repellent to a certain extent, but water can seep through when exposed to heavy rain. To improve the effect, we recommend spraying the hat with waterproofing spray. If your leather hat has become wet, it should be dried slowly. Never put it on the heater or use a hair dryer to shorten the drying time.

Straw hats

Straw hats are easy to care for. Humid climates do not affect them much. However, prolonged dampness destroys the shape of the hat. Please do not touch shaped men's straw hats at the front of the head. To prevent the straw from breaking, it is better to grasp the hat at the brim.
